First let me say, I'm not much of a wine drinker. More like beer! But I would like to start drinking wine on occasion. Can anyone tell me some good wines? What would especially go good with chocolate covered strawberries? Now, I would like to know a good red wine. Keep in mind, I need something I could buy in a basic liquor store in the states. Thanks for any and all help!! Oh, by the way I like sweet things. Like fru fru drinks!

Well, I'm not going to give you any brand names, just some varietal names.
Cabernet Sauvignon. It's a little heavy but good with certain foods like steak.
Zinfandel (not that stupid "White Zin" but the red kind. White Zin should be banned). Great, absolutely great with spicy food. It's peppery and when you eat spicy foods you get these little explosions going through your mouth as you drink it. I love it.
Merlot. Lighter, more fruity. Good with some cheeses.
Pinot Noir. Lighter still. Good with Lamb. I like it with chicken also.
Shiraz (sometimes called Syrah in the US). Not as light as Pinot. It has just a tad bit of sweetness to it.
Now for the big question, what to drink with your chocolate covered strawberries. I would drink the Shiraz. Try to find an Australian one, they're really good and you can find them starting around $5 for a 750 ml bottle in most supermarkets. Yeah, yeah, all you wine snobs will stick your nose in the air at that price but they really are very nice wines. You don't have to pay a lot for a decent wine. If the Shiraz doesn't float your boat, then try the Merlot or the Zinfandel.
I would also recommend you eating dark chocolate with the wine. Oh, this must be heaven.

Try Beringers White Zinfandel~ it is very inexpensive but very good.. it is a fruity wine that isn't dry.
You may like Chardonay w/ cheese. Robert Mondavi is a good one.
You may like Riesling w/ a meal. Johana Faulkenberg
But, try any Zinfandel,, and you won't be sorry.
Merlot, and Cabernet Savignon..are very heavy, dry, dark wines, and are mostly drank by those who are really into wine.
O I forgot to mention. Rosetti,, Auste Spumante.. well I mispelled it..but it is a nice sparkling wine that goes well w/ strawberries, and very pretty and sparkly... special occasion type wine,, I just blundered the name.
It is a green bottle w/ gold foil. All of these wines are around 10.00

Not being muck of a wine deinker I would try something with a sweetness to it like a Riesling or Chenin Blanc. A wine to go with sweets would be a red wine that is dry like merlot .
