Will you pick peas for 5c a pound?
Will you pick a bushel of tomatoes or apples for 50c a bushel?
I knew many who were seasonal, legal migration workers when I lived in California in the 80's and the prices I quote are double of what was paid then.
I rented to some legals then, it is possible to be legal, and honest.
So the next logical question is...
What White, Black or Native American or any one born in the US is willing to do back breaking work for those wages so that the populace can enjoy the prices they pay for fresh fruits and vegetables?
Second question is, why is there not more legal immigrates who want to come here and work?

I think that this is a very serious issue.I personally think that illegal immigrants have earned their right to stay in the United States, lets be realistic they are the ones who take the worse jobs, even though they are exploited and abused and are underpaid and the working conditions are more than horrible. It is true however that some of them might pose danger to the U.S because of the crimes they commit, etc; but that's only a minority of them, the majority are hard working men and women who want a better future. The solution is temporary visas of a year or more. They can work legally and go back to their country and so forth. I also think that after a period of time they should be granted citizenship. Minorities and to be more especific hispanics have impacted this country, they are a part of this great diversity and should be treated as human beings who are only looking for new opportunities and for new hopes for their families. Being the daughter of immigrants myself, i have seen how hard it has been for my parents, however i am thankful that we can be part of this great nation and i'm thankful for the opportunity that my family was given. Hopefully a decision can be reach and i pray for it to be a win win decision.

Make it possible for people to come here legally and work; it is not easy to get here legally. When they get here legally, they are then able to have protections such as minium wage and insurance and FMLA. They then pay taxes on their income like everyone else. With medical insurance and better wages, they can then afford proper medical care and stop getting free health care at the tax payers dime at the state run hospital. Last, when paying taxes, they pay their part for using the schools that illegals are getting for free. The US Governmetn pays billions each year giving out free health care and education to illegals who are not paying taxes. So, the impact of doing it legally is the immigrant worker gets better pay and medical (good for them) while their tax money pays for the services they use like the rest of us taxpayers - that is good for the economy. These people can live like humans instead of always hiding in the shadows because of their status.

The downside, some companies will have to pay more for their workers and their prices to the consumer will go up. But, that is what the free markets are very adept at dealing with - price goes up, demand goes down and things even out eventually.

The problem is, it is a helluva lot easier to jump the border and live in the shadows than it is to get a workerman's visa.
