A new report is out that shows the costs imposed on Texas taxpayers by illegal aliens. The report was released by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). The current estimates show there are 1.5 million illegal aliens in Texas. The costs when broken down comes to a total of $725 a year per taxpaying household to cover the costs of education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens throughout the state.

The more than $4.7 billion in costs incurred by Texas taxpayers annually result from outlays in the following areas:
Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in Texas and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Texans spend more than $4 billion annually on education for illegal immigrant children and for their U.S.-born siblings. About 11.9 percent of the K-12 public school students in Texas are children of illegal aliens.

Health Care. Taxpayer-funded medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population amount to about $520 million a year.

Incarceration. The uncompensated cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in Texas’s state and county prisons amounts to about $150 million a year (not including local jail detention costs or related law enforcement and judicial expenditures or the monetary costs of the crimes that led to their incarceration).

The fiscal costs of illegal immigration do not end with these three major cost areas. The total costs of illegal immigration to the state’s taxpayers would be considerably higher if other cost areas such as special English instruction, welfare programs used by the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens, or welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal alien workers were also calculated.

The economic burden is huge. If we grant amnesty or citizenship to the illegals, it'll be 5 times worse in 20 years.

The 'illegals keep the economy running' argument has no merit. Quite frankly it's the exact opposite. Letting the illegals stay in the country is an economic suicide pill.

Do people realize that letting the illegals come in and stay is creating the exact same situation in Mexico? A few corrupted elite at the top and a huge underclass.

It amazes me that Liberals are the ones pro-illegal. The first rule of being a bleeding heart is to embrace recycling. Fixing broken things instead of getting new ones.

Mexico is broken, they need to fix it instead of getting a new one.

LOL you are too kind. Another poster copied a study nationwide and spelled out about 450 billion a year. No matter how you add it up, they don't come close, even when you include what is paid by the ones 'who don't use services'.

Deport - 250 billion once
Keep Here - 500 Trillion Dollars with all the ones here + Senate plan of exponentially importing poverty
Freedom - priceless.

Ben above me - did you say Americans won't do construction jobs? You've lost your right to speak with me.

Just think that is Texas alone. Now Fiqure in the rest of the states this so called cheap labor comes at a very high cost. I like the, who will mow your yard now-what will happen to the illegals when winter comes, it's cold, snowing not much of demand for lawn care does it then become a case of who will remove the snow from your drive way.. For illegals to think this nation will come to halt over lawn care is not only crazy but stupid

We have the same problem in California. And don't believe the falacy that "if we kick the Mexicans out who will do the work?" This is a weak argument. There is ALWAYS someone to do the work. Don't lawns get cut in Nebraska, or Vermont, or New Hampshire? There aren't many illegal Mexicans there. So if only the Mexicans will do these jobs one would expect states with not a lot of illegal Mexicans to be in economic ruin wouldn't we? But we don't. What we DO see is:

1. fewer gangs (MOST of which are comprised of Hispanics--many of whom are here illegally)
2. fewer tax dollars wasted on those who DON'T pay federal or state income tax
3. less homeless problems in their state
4. less-crowded schools with no language barrier issues
5. less-crowded freeways and SAFER freeways since more drivers are legally insured (many illegal Mexicans carry NO insurance at all)

Can we afford to send the illegal Mexicans packing back across the Rio Grande? YES. If we don't ,we will continue to see hard working REAL Americans losing more and more of their tax dollars to people who don't deserve 5 cents of it.

Incidentally, Hidden Doe's comments are moronic. NO Mexicans get social security cards so that they can PAY taxes. Who is she kidding. They get fake social security cards so they can collect welfare. If they acquired a fake social security card that means the government doesn't know it exists--that means that they will NOT receive a W-2 form for their sages--that means if they DO pay taxes they be caught by the government.

Don't EVER believe those who claim illegal Mexicans acquire social security cards so that they can pay taxes. I have yet to see ONE example of this taking place.

this is just the debit side of the ledger, isnt it

any worker [including homemakers and tertiary students] is putting US$15 an hour [2006AD, doubling every 12 years or so] into the economy by their work, creating goods or providing services [students create educated people]

if you pay $5 instead of $15 an hour, you have a saving of $10 an hour which you can spend elsewhere [creating jobs]

if they are getting out only $5 an hour, they are donating $10 of goods/services/wealth/work to the economy every workhour

total the number of illegal immigrants, take a stab at their average annual workhours [2500?], multiply by the difference [$10?] between $15 and their average pay [$5?], and that is how much they are putting into the economy

balance that against the debit side

im guessing the benefits are big cash positive for america - which is why the superrich/powerful into whose hands you put the control over the last 200 years are not giving a damn about your jobs, they are looking at the bottom line for them, more money from cheap labour

the same thing the british overlords did at the beginning of the industrial revolution, close the country [rural] and force the people into cities, where high supply of labour meant dirtcheap labour

tell me again why you did nothing while the superrich stole america and the world, turned it into a military fascist state complete with huge concentration camps?

although the american dream of freedom was from day one based on limitation of fortunes?

1% get 90% of world income - US$70 trillion a year - they do less than 1% of the work

if you are looking for evil thieves and murderers, why cant you guess that the thieves will be the ones with heaps of money, vastly more than they could have earned [ie, contributed to the economy by making goods and providing services]?

a poor man is a robbed man, an underpaid man, one who gives more than he gets [not willingly]

'the poor man pays for all'

'the poorhouses are full of honest men'

'nice guys finish last'

a rich man is a robber baron, an overpaid man, one who gets more than he gives

i guess your hatred for the illegal immigrants is based on the thing of: the boss shouts at you, you shout at your wife, your wife shouts at the kids, the kids kick the cat

99% of workers are underpaid - so you can combine with 99% [if you stop kicking the cat] and determine to have laws outlawing extreme super overpay

1% get 90% of world income - US$70 trillion a year - they dont do 90% of the work - so they are thieves, legal thieves - if you want more money, why not go to where the money is? - why kick the cat? - kicking the cat will KEEP you in chains, in underpay, in desperation, in misery

kicking the cat is how you have kept in chains for centuries, millenia

the price of liberty is vigilance - get vigilant, wake up, see reality

vent your hate on the weak? those who have had more stolen off them than you have? help the superrich grind the faces of the poor?

what did the german industrialist fatcats do in the 1930s? - finance hitler to terrorise the workers, murder all the pro-people voices [over 100,000 americans i mean germans, oh, it could never happen here, people are so different from country to country - not], keep wages down so the fatcats could get richer, start wars so the fatcats could get richer, murder millions of germans and allies to get richer

'merchants have no country' jefferson - for merchants, read bigbusiness, fatcats, fascists, tyrants, mafia

US senate committee in the 1950s said bigbusiness was more powerful than govt

the mafia are bigger than the five biggest corporations together - bigger economy than turkey and four other somewhat smaller countries together

they own, control america - they conquered it years ago - why do you think they are still around?

'the great [ie, the superrich superpowerful] are rarely good' plato - actually they are never good, because by definition they have stolen heaps of money which is also power

'equality breeds no strife' the ancient athenians

remember? - the foundation of democracy?

would you rather be humiliated in your ego, in your unreality, and restore democracy and dignity of man?

or be humiliated forever in your body and your lives?

you made a mistake - you let wealth concentrate - correct it - teach people that they can have more money, avoid extinction soon, stop war, restore democracy and peace and dignity to america

limit fortunes to the just earnable maximum [US$2 million] and spread the overfortunes [and overpower]
equally, electronically, directly, fully among all people - then every family in the world working average hard will have US$75,000 a year [all that they earn/create] and we will all survive and have 100-fold happiness

every family will get about another US$70,000 a year if overfortunes are culled on decease

permitting overpay is the root of virtually all evils

[when the bible says love of money is the root of all evils, it doesnt mean it is wrong to like getting fairpay, getting out as much as you put in, it means loving getting out more than you put in, ie, stealing others' earnings]

strife is now fatal to all, thanks to e=mc2

Your numbers are wrong. While I, too, am concerned about illegals, money is not a good reason to deport them all. The NRC estimates that the typical immigrant and his or her children pay an estimated $80,000 more in taxes than they will receive in local, state, and federal benefits over their lifetimes. So if we deport them all, OUR taxes will go UP, not down!

Check your facts. It looks to me like you "cut & pasted" an article from a "less then forthcoming" source!

actually, a lot of illegal aliens obtain fake social security cards. they end up paying taxes themselves for which they'll never end up seeing the benefits.

they are a big part of the current economy, working in jobs that no american wants to take.

a friend of mine mentioned how funny it was that bush wants all the embryo's from fertilization clinics to be born, but is afraid of having more aliens entering this country.

I have to agree with Hayleylov and Sashie. They said it better than I can right now. It does cost to have slave labor in the USA, why others can't see it is beyond me. If you are called a racist, it only means you are making educated sense.

Pro illegals say that it would take too much money to deport them all. Look at what just one state loses from them. It is cost effective to deport them all.
