Puerto Rico is a spanish speaking latin nation. You can be certain it is a country

Puerto Rico is not part of the US, it is associated with it which is different !! (people are lazy to know the real facts and keep repeating is a territory or part of the US, this is incorrect since 1952, )
... the key to understand this is :that it's political status is a semi sovereign one, it is not fully sovereign. Other countries that are not fully sovereign are: Palestine (occupied by Israel), Tibet (invaded by China) and Taiwan (which is not recognized by China)

Puerto Rico has a special status that created an association with the US , it is a Commonwealth since 1952. Puerto Rico's official name is ESTADO LIBRE ASOCIADO de PUERTO RICO and it's constitution was established July 25 1952 which is the national day of Puerto Rico, this constitution was recognized by the United Nations in 1953 but it's status is not a permanent one since it is still not fully sovereign and Puerto Ricans can vote on this anytime.

Puerto Rico has an olympic team and international representation in international events. It's national representation is known worldwide.

So yes, you can say that you were born in the country of Puerto Rico, just teach the people to understand that PR has an association and this does not mean it is part of the US and educate them about PR , many people in the US do not even know PR has an olympic team, they are for the most part clueless when it comes to PR.

Puerto Rico is a Common Wealth of the United States, in other words a territory. You can't say that P.R is U.S.A because is not a state. You can;t call it a state yet because the government of the United States haven't decided yet, and the puertorican people don't realize is up to them, we can't decide that no matter how many elections we do and the PNP wins (in favor of statehood). That's the crisis we are going through. We are stuck because we are confused with our identity crisis.

We are hearing rumors that supposedly the United States will leave Puerto Rico on is own, to some people this is good news to others is bad, to all is frightening. We are accustomed to be part of the States without supporting ourselves alone.

Maybe being Independent wouldn't be so bad for us. We will have a better identity as puertoricans since we are too influenced by the americans and they don't really cared about us. That's the truth. Hope you understand now.

Don't worry much about where you were born, you are puertorican and american both things.

I have never lived in the United States and I am an american citizen and puertorican.

Is part of the E.L.A (Estado Libre Asociado)

You will never lose that citizenship no matter what.

No it is not a state & citizens are not American. They can not vote &do not pay taxes & their goverment is a lot like USA with 3 branches. You can travel to & from US with driver's license ID but that is expected to change soon.

You were born in Puerto Rico.
