I would play around with my mom's dogs by grab their tail and move it so they can sniff it, they alway end up bite it. Why do they do this? I also notice other dogs do it as well.

Some dogs do this because its fun, and it gets their humans' attention and approval. Dogs generally love to be the center of attention; they crave attention and if chasing his tail gets it, that's why.

It starts out as fun, then is reinforced by your attention and perhaps laughter... and the dog puts two and too together and finds out that it gets rewarded with your affectionate attention...

Some dogs are dumber than others. My dog has never done this.

They probably smell them selves and thinks it a toy of some sort.

They think you are playin with them so they want to bite it or chew on it.

They are just playing...but if you encourage it, it can become a bad habit.
