The physiological purpose of this hair is yet to be explained, but it has been suggested that it serves to collect pheromones and to lessen the effects of friction on the skin during locomotion.

Underarm and pubic hair is supposed to help create a 'scent' which attracts the opposite sex. There are certain endorphins there which are secreted when we are excited that cause the opposite sex to become attracted to us. Sort of like 'perfumes' and colognes'.
