I have tried looking in the Yellow Pages for services that would do that but got frustrated and nowhere. Any suggestions?

Don't go to Walmart or another store like that. They all send it to Utah or someplace. Almost every city has a comany that will convert the tapes for you. Check in the yellow pages under videography. Or google VHS conversion and your city name. I work for such a company, and we ty to personalize each project, as opposed to one on the large companies who doesn't care who's tapes they're working on and puts everything in ageneric package.

Hi,

If you get APC magazine or any other Monthly PC magazine not aimed at gamers, there are often software packages included in the front cover CD ROM or DVD ROM that allow for the transfer of VHS to HD or DVD. I think you do need a certain cable though.

I have used them and they work pretty well. But with the archives of TV companies soon to be available on the net to download, I gave up transferring most of my collection.

Go to Wal-Mat Photo Center. The cost is about $20 per two hours of video transferred to DVD. Takes 2 weeks to get it back.

Best is get the services of video transferring people (that's my line of work!) to do it for you. You can have it in any format you wish - dvd, vcd, svcd, miniDVD, even to other tapes like miniDV, etc... Cost can be as low as $10 (direct transfer).
