Something that is not a chicken cannot become a chicken, only a chicken egg can hatch and become a chicken. The first chicken egg was laid by something that was not a chicken. It was evolution. To repeat - something very close to being a chicken, but not quite, lays an egg. By genetic change, cosmic ray, whatever, it becomes the first first chicken egg. What hatches is a chicken.

I don't get the joke but the egg came first. Another animal sat on the egg. That animal also laid it, but because of evaluation the egg turned into a chicken.
