The hells angels are having there annual “rally” in my town right know yes I know that a large majority of there members are convicted criminals however in this town of approximately 30,000 people we normally have 10 city police and 12 county sheriff deputies however right now there are law enforcement officers form allover the surrounding area as well as federal officers the number I herd today is approximately 140 law enforcement officers
My question is is this over kill at what point does having so many law enforcement officers become a liability I am not being derogatory towards law enforcement but I think if you have 20 hells angels that are getting a little rowdy and you send in 40 cops don’t you think this could start a bigger problem
Just a real question not trying to say that law enforcement would do anything other than what they felt they should do to protect

The reason for the strong Police presence is becuase the Police are there to keep order. Using your analogy of 20 Hell's Angel's to 40 cops, if the police were there to fight, then 20 on 20 is a fair fight, but the Police are there to keep order. It is never considered a liability when there is a strong enough police presence. I believe that those who would challenge the Police deserve to be thrown in jail. I think the presence is a good thing, just look at what happened the last time the Angels met in Vegas (shootout in a casino). If something were to happen to you during the rally and the Angel's were responsible, I bet you would want every one of those Officers to come to your aid.

It depends on the police's plan of action. They are there to keep the peace and they are going to try and do that. They have a responsability to keep the public safe and, believe it or not, the bikers safe. I think it was in Canada where they just had like 28 bikers murdered execution style, hell's angles have enemies.
140 doesn't sound like a confrontational force as much as a containment force. We have a huge biker rally where I live twice a year. The police here set up road blocks and search the people coming in for weapons and make sure no colors are worn befor letting them in (it is part of the rally permit so it is leagle). We bump up police protection during that time, but as of yet we have never had a problem with the bikers.
It is really hard to say if this is too many without knowing the history of this event. If there has been trouble in the past, if the police have heard of a possable crime going to happen, several things could be the cause of the force brought in. Better to have too many than too few if trouble starts though.

I think 20 hell's angels could run through a pack of 100 cops no problem.

I think its a bit excessive to have that many police, you ppl and your stereo types about HA's and other MC's makes me sick. Most HA's are Very kind and family orientated i would leave my children with them before i would a squad room of cops. That amount of cops is only to antagonize the HA and their supporters we have MANY events here where i live and you wouldn't see the city going "Overboard" like you say yours is. Hells Angels (HA's) are just like the rest of us, they are here to promote FUN and free living i suggest some ppl take cue from them and just relax and live a little!

That is alot of cops.The Angels have quite the reputation though. I think they will just party it up and if anyone gets hurt it will be one biker against the other.

It is a deterrant, if the numbers were equal they would be more likely to do something. It is kinda like having 5000 nuclear bombs, you dont need them all, it just keeps people from messing with you.
