Absolutely be a pediatrician. Once you have spent time building up clientelle, you can choose how many days a week you wish to work. Also, it's not like you wish to be an obstetrician that can be called away at all hours to deliver a baby. Join a group of doctors that are on call for each other's patients when it's their day off. It's not brain surgery. ;-)

yes I believe you can. The good thing about being a doctor is you can work with other Md's and you cover each other when you have family issues. You make enough money that you can change your schedule ahead of time and reschedule your patients. Now on the other hand if you choose to be a specialist well that would be a little harder but also can be done. Requires more schooling of course. Have a good one son will be a MD next year. In his internship. Not a grandmother yet, oh well....

Why can't you do that and still spend time with your family? The only really time consuming part is going to be getting the qualifications. Once you have them you are a pediatrician and can do what ever you like.

If you have family now, you won't have any time for them during medical school and your internships. Once you've become a pediatrician and go into practice, you'd have much more time. While I was in nursing school (and that was only 3 years), I had very little time for anyone or anything except studying, school, and clinicals. Medical school is much longer and intense.

Good for you! You can do anything you want to, you'll have plenty of time for a family as long as you finish college and med school and all of your internships before you start that family. Best wishes for you and your future!

I would suggest getting through all the necessary schooling *before* settling down into family life (husband, kids, all that), but once you're into the career itself, you should still have plenty of time for family.

Great career choice, by the way! Go for it!

Sure. If you open up a private practice you set your own hours. I'd say it'd be a good job if you want good money and time for your family.
