Ask them questions. Ask them about their religion, making sure you say God Bless you at the end. Ask them to pay a bill for you. What ever they are selling, ask them to give you the money to pay for it and you will pay them back later. Ask them for their credit card number. Simply treat them the way they treat you.
If they have a telephone number which they are suppose to show, call them back and continue to call them back over and over again. I did it with one telemarketer and it ran her crazy.

They almost always ask you... how are you?
When they do, tell them...
Oh so glad you asked. Nobody talks to me anymore. My arthritus is acting up and I have a hard time moving around. Not only that, my tailbone hurts ever since I broke it in the motorcycle accident last year. Teenagers these days just don't get how serious driving can be. And to top it off, they get involved in so much crap. Of course, some teenagers are great. There is that show on tv about the most talented kids and I was watching a ballet dancer yesterday. She was cute but not as cute as the little boy who could sing like Elvis. The little boy down the street could do that if he wanted to. He comes to visit when I can't move around. I had an accident and broke my tailbone. And my arthritus is acting up...
Continue rambling without letting them utter a single word until they hang up. They will take you off their list and not call back and you can laugh about how long they put up with you.
As an alternative, you can reply - I'm fine. Do you know anybody who is interested in (fill in the blank) and then try to sell them something! LOL

I tried the do not call registry and I still get many telemarketers :( Not bill collectors, but telemarketers....usually Dish Network or Direct TV (which I already have) or new phone services. ALso lots of people wanting donations. I don't know why this list did not work for me.

www.donotcall.gov website does work but it takes on average 60 days to start working just advise the telemarkerters to take you off there list but remeber you catch more flys with honey so no matter how frustrated you are dont be rude to the telemarkerters when making this request and by law they do have to take your name/number off there calling list but some telemarketers dont take your name off the list if you are rude or demanding towards them out of spite...so be nice while your waiting for the donotcall.gov list to start working for you and if this doesnt work and you know the number the telemarkerters are calling from contact your local phone company if this is on a landline phone and see what options they have most major ilec's or (phone companys) have a call block or call call trace feature that lets you block specific numbers you just have to get directions on how to use the feature and there maybe a one time fee to add the feature and a monthly re-accuring fee for the service and if you dont have the number the telemarketers are calling from because it shows up private or anonymous just have your phone company add anonymous call rejection....and if none of this works check your state laws because some states like texas and missouri for example have laws that allow you to personally sue the telermarketing representative that calls you or the actual telemarketing firm that is calling you.....but remember when attempting to do this you have to get info from the telemarketing representative who is calling you like what firm or company do they work for and what state they are calling from so dont demand this info from the rep be nice and friendly so they dont realize what your attempting to do and if you start recording the calls as proof that the the telemarketers are harrassing you do your research on state laws because it is illegal to record a phone call/converstaion without getting consent from the other person on the phone in a lot of states in the u.s.a.in this case the other person on the phone would be the telemarketer ...........good luck

When they call, make it a point to say, "Take me off your list." By law they are required to do so. There's a link below (the first one) pointing to a page with good info on this.
Another option is to register with the National Do Not Call Registry. (see 2nd link below)
Similarly, for physical mail (USPS), please see the third link below. The Direct Marketing Association has a Mail Preference Service you can sign up for that notifies companies that you do not wish to be on their mailing lists. To sign up online, there is a $5 fee. If you sign up by USPS, the fee is waived, but it can take a couple months to process.
None of these options will guarantee a complete cessation of unwanted phone calls and mail, but they should greatly reduce the number you DO get.
I know we've done all three and have been very happy with the results.
I hope this helps you! Good luck!

When they call the office, my boss always has me tell them: "I'm sorry, he's on a round-the-world cruise right now and should be back some time next year. However, he did leave a number for us to forward all business calls to: (415) 356-9833."
That makes it almost fun to answer telemarket calls...Call the number and you'll see why.

Tell them that you are on the Do Not Call list, and by them calling you they have to pay you $500.
