As a Christian, I am horrified that a church would preach this type of hate. This church is not of Christ and this church is preaching hate and evil. It will be judged by God for teaching children evil.
In I Corinthians, the Bible teaches that without love we are nothing more than a clanging gong or resounding cymbal. Anything done in God's name without love is NOT from God.
Jesus was the son of God and during his time on earth, Jesus showed compassion and mercy to those who were the most despised and hated in that society. At the same time, he was harsh on those who should know better.
God loves everyone, but I can't promise that he likes what we do.

You can't say that these people aren't "true Christians" without some sort of definition of what makes a true Christian. If a Christian is someone who believes Jesus is Lord, then certainly these are Christians. If a Christian is someone who loves their neighbor and turns the other cheek, doesn't that mean George Bush isn't a Christian, and the Dalai Lama is?
Now, as for this particular cult: the Westboro Baptist Church is a cult obsessed with hating people and being hated. See the Wikipedia article for more information. Needless to say, their view that "God Hates Fags" is far outside the realm of how most Christians think homosexuals should be treated, but within mainstream Christianity there is a large range of opinions. If you're asking me personally, I'd say that if there is a God, he must love everyone to some extent or he wouldn't allow us to exist.

I find this appalling. No where in the Bible does it lead anyone to believe that Christ teaches hate for any people. Whoever taught this child this I believe will have to answer to God for this hatred and it's actions.Whether or not the actions are just God loves us all. It's a good thing or we would all have no hope as none of us is without sin. It is very disturbing and sad that someone would choose to mislead a child this way.
Peace Be With You,
Debra

I am incredibly disturbed that anyone, much less a child, would hold a sign like that and smile. God loves everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, and even whether or not you believe in him. Unfortunately, it's usually the religions that spread this propoganda, not God. Not ALL religions, just a few, but because they are the most vocal, people then assume that all Christians feel this way, and nothing could be further from the truth.

No, dearheart, God doesn't hate. Man hates. God is universal eternal Love. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Unfortunately children can be taught all sorts of horrible things and they grow up believing these things are true...look at a lot of the narrow-minded questions in the Religion and Spirituality Section. The child doesn't know any better. The adults that taught her should be ashamed of themselves. I am sticking to God is Love and God loves Everybody.

I've got two quotes for you, Zen:
Leviticus 20:13
II Kings 2: 23-24
And to confirm that this isn't just Old testament, we have a few from Paul:
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Romans 1:24-27
1 Timothy 1:9-11
So as much as others would like to deny it, seems your link leads to people practicing Christianity (in a very narrow sense of the word, it appears...but I bet they treat each other with all kinds of Christian love).
As for whom does God love: check with Paul (God doesn't love women who talk in church, for example), or Revelations 21:8 (note that unbelievers share the same fate as murderers).
Good question, Zen.

Some people use the bible to justify their actions. In this case, the Phelps are experts at that. Probably because 10 of his kids are lawyers and can spot a loophole a mile away. It's sickening to see this kind of thing going on.
People reflect the God they worship.

This is just another one of satan's ways of attacking us. We are all God's children whether we believe in Him, or accept Him. He loves everyone and hates no one. He hates sin, but not the sinner. It's a shame to teach children or even adults for that matter, that God hates certain people.

I cannot open the picture but I bet money that its the family that has been on the news here of late. There is large church group that goes around protesting solders funerals with signs like this and ones that say your son is dead because god hates (gays) The bad thing is out of the hundred member church, 80 of them are family (to much inbreeding if you ask me)

Homosexuality can harm nations.... But God DOSE NOT HATE HOMOSEXUALS... that is in direct oposition to the teaching of Jesus The Christ... For any one to teach a child that is a sin...period.... the acts of homosexuality are an abomination to God and very much sinfull.... But God's call is to all...ALL... who come to Him inThe Way He proscribes. They can assure there Salvation in the same Way as any one else.... There is only one way, The Way to Salvation.
The people promoting such as that sign and the teaching of hate to children need to find that correct path to God. Or they to will be lost.
