Lovebirds are very active and require an appropriately sized cage. They require lots of toys and things to chew on and play with. Lovebirds are extremely social birds, and there is debate on whether they should be kept individually. However, the consensus seems to be that they need social interaction, be it with conspecifics or human companion, for their emotional as well as physical well-being. Without this interaction, daily exercise, a roomy cage, and many toys to play with, they may resort to feather-plucking or other behavioral problems. They love to take baths almost every day and may sun themselves after bathing in order to dry.

This all depends on you. Are you willing to be this lovebirds faithful companion? A single bird is easy to train and you will become this birds only friend, a bond between you. The bird will look to you for all it's needs which includes food, company and entertainment on a regular basis. If you are a person who is gone most of the time then a single bird is not an option for you. Lovebirds (a single lovebird) depends on you to make them happy. He will get used to it if you are gone but eventually problems will develop. He will become sad that you are not there and then happy when you finally get there, setting it in constant up and downs. If you do not have the time then I would recommend a pair who can keep each other company. They are not as trainable, but like mine will sit on your shoulder together but don't necessarily need you for company.

NEVER
In fact I reccomend single kept lovebirds. Unless the birds are parent raised or arent tame.
If your bird is tame and is happy to come out of its cage and play with you your bird does not need a companion.
I've kept all my lovebirds in separate cages, and they entertain themselves during the day with their toys, bathing in their water dish or eating.
Lovebirds are nomadic birds in the wild and travel in pairs or groups so they naturally dont need to be in constant social interaction, where as cockatoos are rarely in a flock of less than 10 birds, normal flocks of cockatoos are in the hundreds to tens of thousands. In In paired lovebirds I've noted aggressive behavior in lovebirds kept in pairs, and the pairs that are fine want nothing to do with people and act out aggressively or fearfully tward their care taker.
Make sure your bird has lots of interesting colorful toys to keep him menatlly and physically stimulated during the day.

I hope this helps

if your not that great with pets u might want to give away your lovebird?
In what way r u not great with pets, this concerns me.
R u giving your lovebird time with u, that means outside his cage?
R u feeding him nutritional foods? (fruits and vegies, corn, multigrain breads etc) every day?
Does he have cuttlefish bone for calcium?
Is his cage large, it needs to be wider than it is taller?
Does he have exposure to natural sunlight?
Does he have natural branches in his cage?
Does he have clean fresh water every day?
Is he wormed, this should b done at least every 6 mths for a single kept inside bird?
Does he have toys to keep him amused?
If your bird is looking depressed, he probably is.
Do u hear him twittering merrily to himself?
This will mean that he is contented.
Or does he just sit in the one spot sleeping more often than not?
Or is he flapping around the cage like he's possessed?
If hes not happy, and if you cannot provide the necessary things listed above you should pass your bird on to someone who will devote lots of their time to their feathered friend.

my mom had a male love bird for 5 years. my stupid brother talked her into buying a female. they mated, then the female dominated the cage, not letting the male eat... then one day my moms precious male broke his leg trying to get away from the female and then died. keep your lovebird alone. if you give him plenty of love and attention then he will be just fine living alone.

If you can spend a lot of time socializing with your bird, it's okay to have just one. But if not, you should get a companion. Love birds need companionship.

in case you do plan on getting yet another chook, i could set up yet another cage so as which you will introduce them. i could provide them each and every week or which you will get aquainted. Birds choose their pals. besides, via then you definately could be attentive to if there getting alongside.additionally i could seek for a chook with regard to the comparable age. warning: in case you do shop them jointly interior the comparable cage, you won't be waiting to look after your chook as you as quickly as did. while 2 lovebirds are prepare they type a stable bond to a minimum of one yet another and could exchange into nippy with their vendors. in case you prefer to purchase yet another chook and nonetheless be waiting to look after the two birds, shop them in seperate cages.

the bird should be just fine as long as you are giving plenty of love and attention. beside you've said one is enough for you, getting 2 isn;t going to help. keep the one, just be a good friend to it and it'll be fine. :)
