Register at the online do not call registry. Cell phones, business and home phones can be registered... You will still get some calls for about 30 days. Just tell anyone who calls in that time period that you are registered with the do not call registry and to please remove you from their calling list. If they give you any hassle advise them that you will file a report.
I had to do this too and every solicitor I spoke to was immediately ready to get off the phone and apologized quickly. Keep a log next to your phone for the first 30 days and file it with your phone bill after that. (You will then have a record of companies you personally advised of the registration, etc. just write down their name, the company, date and time of the call.)
Be patient, the calls will stop in about 30 days... Good luck!!

Register on the Do Not Call list, and report every telemarketing call that occurs after the registration becomes effective. Note that some organizations are exempt from being banned by the list.

When you register the on the "Do not call" list, warn them the next time they call, and tell them that if they call again that you will press charges, or what ever the next line of legal action would be.

I hooked up a fax machine to my land line and let the telemarketers listen to the squawk. My personal calls are confined to my cell phone and, so far, I haven't been bothered. I think the telemarketers generally ignore the DNC registry, figuring most times people won't take time to report them.

The Do Not Call list works very well. Your phone will stop ringing. So DO IT.

So until this starts to work, answer the phone and say clearly to the person that answers the phone:
"Hello, please add my telephone number to your Do not call list. Thank you".
Then hang up.
If this still persists, you can get the product called Tele-Zapper. That also works great.

Whoever told you the Do Not Call Registry does not work was likely lying to you, or had debt colloectors calling them (the Do Not Call Registry does not stop those who have legitimate business with you).

Ask them to put you on their internal do not call list. They have 30 days to comply then you can file a complaint with the FTC.
