Does anyone know of any benefits that I may qualify for to help me out financially since I am on disability and believe me it doesnt pay much. I have a 6 yr old grandchild that I am also raising and hate the fact that I can not take better care of her financially. We just barely make it from month to month. By the way, we live in east texas so if you know of anything in our area please respond.

I will be receiving SSI disability. As of right now since my payments havent started I am receiving medicaid for me and my grand daughter, and also food stamps but was under the impression that I would lose all once my disability pymts started. And you have to wait 24 months before medicare picks up. And on top of that medicare charges 88 dollars amonth which is a big chunck out of the check.

Are you on state disability or federal social security disability? Or are you on SSI disability. It's unclear from your statement.
Are you on Medicaid? Food stamps? Are you getting funds from the city/state as a grandparent foster caretaker? Have you legalized the relationship with taking care of your grandchild?
Are you able to qualify for any state housing benefits? Are there any subsidies available where you are to help for rising gas costs or the cost of water, heat, other utilities? Do you have a special phone bill for disabled - in NY, I believe it's called Life Line.
Hope some of this can help send you in the right direction.

SSI, food stamps, TANF and some churches have food, clothes, school supplies, there is a program called Angel Food that for 25 dollars you get a lot of food each month through certain churches.

yes, If you have legal custody of the grandchild they should be eligable to draw off of you. Or child support. Their are free lunch programs and many other programs the health dept. and social services in your area should be able to help you out. good luck
