This is an easy, yummy chocolate frosting: cream a softened stick of butter with a mixer or wire whip. Sift 2 cups confectioner's sugar and mix in 1/2 cup cocoa( I like Ghiradelli's).Beat this mixture with butter, adding a little at a time. Every time you add cocoa/sugar mixture, add a tablespoon of milk. Blend this until creamy. If you want more chocolate, add more cocoa. If it's too thick, add more milk. Too thin? add more sugar. When it's the right spreading consistency, add a little vanilla extract. Put on a cake if you have to. Better, just eat it out of the bowl straight. This takes about 10 minutes.

1 to 1 1/2 lbs powered sugar
1 stick butter (softened)
cocca (according to how chochlatey u want it)
peanut butter (about 3 heaping Tbsp)

evaporated milk
Mix all ingredients, add evaporated milk a little at a time until you have the desired consistency of the frosting that you need.
Taste a lot like Reece Cups.
Really good with milk chochlate cake or white cake.

You can find a lot of nice frosting/icing recipes on http://www.foodtv.com where I highly recommend Alton Brown's! Some favorites are buttercream and 7-minute icing. You are right to forgo the boxed stuff. While box cake mixes are great, the frosting usually isn't so hot. Good luck!

Depends on what type of cake. For a chocolate cake, try a marshmellow cream. For yellow cake, nothing beats fudge & on a white cake, strawberry or orange is awesome!
