Try putting a litter box, food and water in a room without carpet, like the utility room (with the light on). Leave the cat in there until there is pee and poop in the box, probably several hours.

Worked for my cat when I first got him - he was very nervous, hadn't been cared for very well. Hopefully that will work for you.

We had a cat that crapped on the carpet outside his box, too. It turned out that he had colon cancer. Have your cat checked out. If it turns out your cat is healthy, the vet may have some suggestions for having your cat use the litter box.

Fill a spray bottle full of water and if the cat looks like he is going to do his business, spray him, then, to get the cat to get to go in the litterbox, take him over to the litterbox, and take his paw and wipe it back and forth in the litter( make sure it is clean)! Do that every once in a while for about a week or less, and he should be able to stay in the litterbox to do his business!

I have 5 cats and none of mine have ever done that? I have 1 box for 5 cats.

Use a spray bottle, half vinegar, half water...when the cat does the behavior in front of you, spray him on his back...if he doesn't get the point, spray his face (it won't hurt him)...if all else fails...there was a guy earlier asking what size gun to use, although I DO NOT agree with any such action, there is always an out. (no matter what the behavior is by the way..this can be used on scratching furniture, ankle biting, etc...)

Clean the carpet. Then put put food where he craps. Cats won't eat where they poop.

Sometimes that's a behavioral thing. When my cat is pissed off at me...she'll leave a bit of poop in my shoe, or on a pillow just for me. Is it mad about something? LoL

Put food where it likes to poop, cats won't eat and poop in the same place.
