It's officially called conjuntivitis--and it is quite contagious--and highly treatable.

Your mother call it pink eye, a magic word that meant no school for a couple of day. Now that you're growing up, you call it conjunctivitis, Wash the red away. Remember Mom sitting on the side of your be. dipping a washcloth in a bowl and gentle placing it on your eyes? wet pillow aside, she had the right idea. A warm compress applied to the eyes for 5 to 10 minutes three or four times a day will make you feel better,

"Pink eye" is a general term for any eye that is "pink." Usually, if a doctor diagnosis it, he or she is referring to an eye infection. Therefor, the "pink eye" is either a bacterial or a viral infection of the eye. Viral pink eye is very easy to get, just like getting a cold. Simply touching someone's hand that is not clean and then, later on, you rub your eye with that hand without thinking about it. Kids are a great source of both bacteria and viurs's because many times they do not wash their hands.
You can also get it from touching anything that has germs on it, such as a door handle, especially public bathroom door handles. That is why I alwasy grab a paper towel to open the door with after I wash my hands and have to grab the door to get out of the bathroom.
That's why you probably only have it in one eye, the bug got in only one eye, not both.
If you wear contact lenses, it is also easier to get an eye infection if you do not keep your lenses clean. You need to keep them clean every day by washing them with all-purpose contact lens cleaner, and never, ever, share your contact lenses with others. That is a sure-fire way to get an infection. And keep your case clean by washing it once or twice every week or two with hot water.
Hope that answers your question!

Pink eye is also called Conjunctivitis. I usually comes from dirt like rubbing the eyes with dirty hands or it can come from other people who has it (it's contagious), shared make-up, or even sometimes something blows into it. You'll need an antibiotic (drops) to clear this up. This can be annoying and your eye(s) can be sensitive to light. Get to the doctor as soon as you can. Hope you feel better.

Pink eye can be caused by your allergies. You can get pink eye from swimming in pools that don't have chlorine in them, or it can be caused by getting dirt or an eyelash in your eye. You can have pink eye in one or both of your eyes, it doesnt matter. Sunlight will bother it, but if it starts to itch don't touch it. Pink eye can come on suddenly & be gone within a week or less. Hope this helps!

My son has gotten it from school before. It is highly contagious. It can spread to your other eye. You need to get a perscription for medicated eye drops. It will go away really fast once you take it, but if you don't treat it, it will get worse and worse. So, please go to the Doctor.

you need to go to a doctor and get some antiobiotic drops for your eye. that will clear up the pink eye. in the meantime WASH YOUR HANDS ALL THE TIME as it is VERY CONTAGIOUS and you can easily transmit it to family and friends. keep some hand sanitizer gel around too incase you cant get around water and soap.
