Because it has been traditionally accepted that the guy asks the girl. Personally I don't go for that. If I want a guy I'll tell him. I'm glad too, I've met a wonderful guy this way, and I love him to death.

I would also like to know this because were so bent on making women independant and making them equals why dont we equalize that?

Perhaps they think we will be offended if they take away our traditional role. Some of us may well get offended, but for others it would be a relief :)
