My kitties were bottle fed and now they feel the need to nibble on the blanket. I have tried picking their head up from the blanket and water and little smacks, but they still do it.

This is something very common to bottle fed cats who don't really lose the urge to stop suckling for comfort and so suckle on clothes and blankets right into adulthood. It's much like a toddler who has long out-grown their bottle but still cling to it for comfort.

I think you should try giving the kittens their own blanket to suckle on, laying it on you when they're with you. It will be something quite hard to wean them off from doing so you just have to look on the bright side and think at least it's just suckling rather than biting or scratching you!

Bottle fed...hmmm, that tells me the mother must be absent and they are just nibbling and probably "kneading" on the blanket as an imitation of how they act with thier mother. This is something they will probably grow out of, i would'nt be too concerned.

try to find a scent or flavor they absolutely despise. Try to put that onto the blanket.

Or, try catnip, but put it on something else. There are scratching posts and things that you put catnip on so they want to go to that.

If all else fails, put that blanket away (if it's only one blanket they are nibbling at, and none else). If they are kept away from the blanket for a while, they may loose interest.

They may not have been ready to quit weening from their mother...so they are doing what is natural...so the best thing to do would be to get a nibble-proof blanket *smiles*

Oh, and don't smack the kitties...or they will nibble your throat while you sleep (I hope)

Time will easy there need for that just a babys gradually loose the pacifier and sippy cup. Don't just say "dont do that" and move them away... give them something else for them to do with their mouth. A toy or a kittty healthy snack or treats. An encourage them to leave the blanket alone by taking it away and putting it in a closet and when you give it back...if they chew it put it away again.

Hope you are sucessful. for me its harder to train cats than dogs!

They under no circumstances end.. properly thats my adventure. I had a cat that had a muddle of four. 2 of the kittens went to my mate and they are literally 8 months old and both suckle at a teddy, so im guessing that they proceed to do it. Its somewhat weird and wonderful however. Lol
