Well, as many have previously stated, these are social groups and are independent from religion. You can be an emo catholic, or an emo jew. I know punks that are atheists and punks that are christians. I know a wiccan goth, I also know a catholic goth. rca_d_2nd is an idiot. Being goth does not mean hating G-d. Being goth does not mean worshipping satan. MORON. You are so ignorant!

Have you seen a real punk? The old school punks dressed like skinheads. Tight jeans, t-shirts, boots, and braces (suspenders for you Americans). Punks were very anti-establishment. Many came from blue-collar working class backgrounds. Their music was about the inequalities of society. They were rough, they were angry, they were often drunk and rowdy. Over time punk fashion evolved to include spikes, chains, mohawks, leather, plaid, and others, it became more flamboyant. Then it died. Real punk has died, the rubbish that the corporations pass off as punk is complete cr@p. The music still exists, but the bands that have taken over the name have lost touch with the true meaning of the movement.

Goth has some shared history with punk. Many of the early artists that are now considered goth had their origins in punk music. Joy Division and Alien Sex Fiend are the most poignant examples. Early gothic fashion resembled the fashion of mods, which some claim was an offshoot of punk. Of course gothic fashion also evolved. To this day, in goth clubs, you can still find an oldschool punk or two hanging out with his/her more gothically inclined friends.

Emos...well I know a few, but I know nothing of its origins. Yes, emos can have non-emo friends, and non-emos can (sometimes) put up with emos long enough to not walk away shaking one's head in dismay. But for the most party their music is not to my taste, although some bands do have a rather interesting take on production. The melodies are often at odds with the lyrics. They do not complement each other. An upbeat and almost sing-songy melody accompanying sad self-pitying lyrics is most incongruous. Their style of dress is distasteful to me, but it's how they dress, and they're not forcing me to wear it, so in the end, I don't really care.

There are no set rules as to who one can associate with. An emo can have a punk friend or a goth friend or one of each. It doesn't matter.

They're all stereotypes, independant of religion, and based on style and music.

Emo stands for emotional, and I think that's pretty self explanatory. I'm not emo... so I don't wanna go making any generalizations if I can help it... Emo music is... well... emotional. Sad. Very sad. Like, my girlfriend left me, I wanna slit my wrist sad. At least, what I've heard. As to style? All I can comment on is the hair and the pants- everyone knows emo hair. I think it's generally dark, and in their eyes. And there's the whole "emo guys wear girl pants" thing. Not sure if that's true in all cases... but that's the stereotype.

Punks- punk rock. Its about going against the grain, not giving a s*** about stereotypes or other people's opinions. They AREN'T sad (well, I'm sure some are... but...). Punk is associated with the DIY ethic (NOT HOT TOPIC) for good reason. 1) Because you can get cheap used clothes and recon them to your personal taste, and punk as a movement grew out of the lower class, so money WOULD be an issue, 2) Punks don't want to be clones created by big companies, so they'll create original clothing that's different to the point of shocking other people (shocking is good in punk). The hair is also a tool to shock people with- mohawks, bright unusual colors... The whole anti-establishment thing also translates into anti-government in a lot of cases (exp- Anarchy for the UK by the Sex Pistols- anti gov't punk song)

Goths... All I know is they wear a lot of black. Other than that *shrugs*

And I'm sure they can get along in general... Whether they like eachother is more based on specific people.

These are all labels society has put on people who dress a certain way, behave a certain way, or dress a certain way.
It used to be Goths are Satanists, Punks were against mainstream, and Emo well... emotional and depressed. They all kind of run into eachother now. Emo/Punk/Goth people basically dress the same so I don't think you can always just tell one apart. Some people cross over. Like they are emo so they hate the mainstream, and despise God....

it has nothing to do with god. emo's = emotional. they're usually upset about things and listen to emo music which is usually sung about girlfriends. they are usually the ones that wanna slit their wrists. punk is a type of music or slang for a person who is a wise ***. gothic are people who dress mostly in black either by itself or mixed with bright colors like pink and neon green. they are usually recluses too.

pretty much what everyone said here was right, more or less, stereotypically speaking...

emo: black hair, excessive makeup in guys and girls, listen to depressing music, cut themselves (i'm guessing most really don't, but it's still fun to joke about...)

punk: crazy hair in wild colors - liberty spikes, mohawks, bihawks and trihawks, plaid and leather clothing, DIY clothing and ethic, spikes and studs, punk rock, anarchy...

goth: with all black or all white makeup/clothes/hair, many wear goth powder to look even more pale than they already are, listen to goth rock, more spiritual and poetic than punk

there is no religion tied to any stereotype but that doesn't mean they can't be religious... also, they can be friends with whoever they want, although most punks i know wouldn't hang out with extremely emo kids...

Being emo, punk, or goth doesn't necessarily affect one's religion. They are simply different culture groupings. They are not religious groups.
