My neighbour has one with a range which extends over my own drive and I object to having my cats scared off their own patch!

We've had a lot of problems with neighbors using sonic anti-cat, bird or rodent devices - all of which upset the poor cats and pet rodents (we have had hamsters, gerbils, rats and chinchillas who have been affected by these horrible things). The worst ones are those which use household wiring as transmission aerials for the noxious sounds.

Might be worth having a word with the neighbors in question, they may not realize that they are broadcasting across such a wide area ....

However the good news is that after a short while the animals, birds and rodents get used to the weird noise maker and ignore it ... leaving your neighbor with an expensive and ineffective toy!

Your best bet is to speak to the neighbor and say something along the lines of, "I understand your wish to keep cats of your property, and I applaud your use of a device that won't actually harm them. However, I do have cats, and your range is extending over MY property line where MY cats live, and that's causing me a problem. Is there a way you can shorten the distance it reaches so that it still keeps the kitties out of your yard, but isn't affecting mine? Mine live there, so they can't go anywhere else."

Technically, if it's causing you problems on YOUR property, you have a legal issue and potential grounds to sue. You might try speaking friendly as a neighbor first, followed by an official letter of request, which you'll want to keep copies of should you go to court.

Oh, and Tiger_Sorceress -- I agree with your sentiments, but hurting someone's animals to get back at them is WAY not an appropriate response. Go after the people all you want, but leave the animals alone!!!!!!!!

hmm depending you the field, ask the neighbour kindly to reduce the radius so that it does not reach your driveway. truthfully they should place such a device as close to the center of their property as possible and set the range to as close as the radius of their land is. I hope it all works out.

And if they are rude and refuse, personally I'd be just as mean and get a device that would make their pets go crazy. If they have a dog, get a dog somehting that would play a high enough pitch to drive it insane! eye for an eye baby!

Call the local council & rat him out. Or mess around with the wiring & make it play a 5 second loop of the beastie boys non stop at full volume.

I have one of these to stop neighbours cats from crapping in my garden. I think they are brilliant. And so do my children now they can play in peace without having to worry about the cat poo in the garden. Yuch.

No, even if you tried a reverse frequency generator you couldn't account for standing waves and echos etc.
The best bet is to ask your neighbour to re-position his machine or threaten him him with court action.
Or torch his house, of course.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.
