A good rule of thumb for over the road driving is that you will average 45-50 mph. This allows for mean speeds of 65-75 mph. As a rule Midwesterners drive at or slightly below posted speed. Sites like mapquest usually get the distance right but their times to a point are absurd and totally un -realistic. Try it; take the distance, divide it by by the time ,come up with an mph figure and ask yourself how realistic that mph figure is? Me , I would catch I-80 W on the other side of the GW take it all the way to somewhere around Ottawa IL. Spend the night continue on I-80 to I-280 at Cedar Rapids IA and then I -35 N to Minneapolis. No Chicago to drive through .
