Sweet! Go ahead and make them an offer. I think it would be a relief to them not to have to deal with it. And then you could have a custom paint job done- with lightning bolts on the side, as a tribute. That would be so nice. What year and model is it? Have fun at the funeral!

Wow.
I wouldn't mention it at the funeral, but maybe a few days later. A more gentle offer would be to "carry on his work" in taking care of the car. But don't think about making the offer unless you have the time or resources to really take care of the car.
And make gently clear that 1) it's their decision, and it will take some time, and 2) that you wish to buy the car, not inherit it.

Yes, don't even mention it. If they are planning to do anything with it, such as sell it, I'm sure they will let all of their friends know about it, at a LATER DATE. Bringing up something like that at the funeral would be the ultimate in cruel insensitivity. And here's what will happen if you do: they will hate you. They will do anything to keep YOU from having it.

Why not, ask for the car. If it means something too you and you were that close. Maybe you can offer to pay them for it to help with the funeral cost. If it was my brother I would sell it to you.

Yes...too soon. I would wait for them to put it up before you go and ask about it....especially if it was special to him. They need some time to deal with thier pain before they can deal with the other stuff.

Another example of the "me me me" in this society. Let the family morn. Geez...their relative was suddenly killed. My grandma was killed in a car accident in 1985. The estate is first settling NOW!

No, but you may be too late. I talked with them at the hospital and they agreed to let me have it. I may be willing to sell it for the right price, just make an offer.

I believe proper etiquette in these situations would dictate that:
as soon as he's in the ground
you're good to go - ask away!

You should wait at least two weeks. Perhaps they already have plans or want it as a memory. Use tact if you ask.
