i did the disk cleanup thing and i think that erased volume control. I went back to control panel and tried to get it back to the taskbar, but it told me that i needed to install it again in the add/remove program so i went back to the windows components but there is nothing at all there about volume control....what do i do to get it back?

You will need to reinstall ur sound card driver from the Installation CD that came with it.
if ur sound card is inbuilt on ur mother board u wil have to run the CD that came along with ur motherboard box

you need to open up the control panel and do a re-install "audio visual options"
