Why is it that when a person tells a joke about "african-americans" he gets his a** reamed, but when a person tells jokes about "white-american" most people laugh? A joke is a joke, cripe! Get over it!

I agree, but I know that no matter how benign the content is here, SOMEONE always gets his or her neck out of joint about something. Some people thrive on conflict, I suppose.

It really depends more on the nature of the joke. If the joke about whites calls them "honkies" or "crackers" and depicts them as ignorant just for being white (not racists, but just white), then that is in poor taste. Also, a joke that assumes all whites are racists would be in poor taste. And of course there are jokes about blacks that are not in poor taste; mostly written by black comedians, of course; that's only fair.

I also appreciate jokes that turn the old jokes on their heads; that substitute a twist for the old-fashioned racist punch line. Are you good at writing ones like that? We need more of those.

Depends on the race of the person telling the joke. some jokes are rude and hurtful and the joker should be more careful.

It depends on the content of that joke... because some things no matter how you try to spin it are not funny. Use your imagination and you can come up with a few.

When white folks tell jokes about black folk they usually mean it to be demeaning and hurtful to blacks.
For example: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

When telling jokes about each other (black & white) our intentions are totally different.

It's funny because when black comics joke about blacks we (blacks) are on the floor with laughter (we can laugh at ourselves), cause our hearts know that it is not meant in a malicious manner.

The difference is in putting something in a jocular manner, or being deliberately offensive.
