Do Shih tzu usually get along with house cats? Are Shih Tzu's friendly and the type of dog that likes to snuggle with you and lay on your lap?

dont know but what will happen if u breed Bulldogs and Shih tzu? "B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T"?

my friend has a shih tzu and had a cat (but recently ran away) they got along pretty well. If the shih tzu is raised with teh cat than they get along well usually. Shih tzu are friendly but they have a tendency to nip when playing...so training them out of it if it doesnt dissappear is a good idea.

have 3 shih tzu, a lab, 2 muts, and twelve cats, they are very friendly, at times all they want is attention, but most of the time the just want to lay down close to us an nap. Took all 3 on a 16 hour road trip with two kid in a dodge Dakota extended cab and they travel all the way in a small area with no complains, from the dogs or the kids. they are playful and obedient, wish the kid were like that at times, they are part of our family know.

My moms friend has a shih tzu and she also has 3 cats. They get along with the cats and also with the people.

I'll say! They get along great with all animals, we have cats, another dog, birds, and horses!
These are the sweetest little dogs you'll ever see! They love to sit on your lap, they hardly shed anything, just like a person. They are easy keepers. I taught mine to not "yap" when someone came to the door, and not to run to the door either. They can be real yappers (barking) and you have to teach them not to if you don't like it, some people it doesn't matter. I taught her all kinds of tricks and I used treats to do it, she is a great little dog and I take her to the groomers every couple of months, we live out on a ranch so she gets pretty scruffy, altho she prefers being inside we keep her in as much as possible.
Anyway I hope this helps! I love mine and she is mostly your and your family's dog, she doesn't go to close to strangers. They are the perfect house dog!

yes and yes.
i have a shih tzu, sadie, she is 15 and i got her when i was 2. she LOVES cats. she used to play with our cat salem, but he got big and started attacking her, but otherwise she wouldve continued to love that cat. at 15 she can be really lazy but when she sees a cat her ears perk up.
she also loves to snuggle. she sleeps on my bed every night in my arms. shih tzus are awesome pets, get one!

generally any breed of dog (or mutt) can learn to be with cats and or other animals, it just take patience and training Yes mostly shih tzu are cuddly types

i have a shih tzu and she loves kittens... she has to go see them every time so goes out to use the potty lol she luvs them

Three dogs, the Apso Lahpso is for warming the LAP
The Shi Tsu the FEET
The Peking ese for guarding around the family, all are small, all small dogs take charge.
Cats are independant and dislike anyone in charge!
After time (whew, seems like FOREVER!) they will figure out their diplomacy... after the fur stops flying!!!

Yes, most shihtzus are loving lap dogs and get along with cats if raised with them...
