i fell HARD on my outer thigh. just slammed on it. there was the usual buising, back pain and tenderness but its a week later and the impact area is still sore. i can pinpoint the most painful spot if i press with my fingers but my walking is not affected in the least. i hate doctor visits and i don't want to endure the x-rays just to have some smug doc tell me, "its a bruise. get over it." however, my left buttock hurts when i sit down and i'm getting tired of leaning.
i've NEVER had a broken bone before so i have no point of reference. is there anything that should indicate its absolutely necessary to seek professional help?

It is possible to have deep tissue bruising, that will still hurt for a week or two. Most fractures are extremely painful, especially a femur (thigh) fracture. Most likely, you would not be able to walk.
If it still hurts in another week or two, it might be a good idea to get it checked out just in case, but otherwise, just rest, heat packs, and ibuprofen (if you are not allergic).
Hope this helps!
