Is it possible to "act" Christian (IE- No sex until marriage, attend church regularly, not watch violent/negative movies, serve mainkind/God and not work for money/possessions) and live in mainstream society? Or are those practices too old fashion and unrealistic?

To Act and living is two different things. We must live a Christian Holy life. People who label themselves Christians act the lifestyle but truly are not living it.

A whole Lot of people"act" "christian" all the time. A more proper way to think of it would be can one be truly of The Christian Faith and live in todayss society... and the answer is yes, of course.
It is much easier for one of True Faith to Live in society than it is for one who is mearly acting.

For Those of The Christian Faith it is the personal relationship with our Lord and Master that give us that little extra to stand firm when we need to. I am not saying that ones of The Faith never fail or sin... We all sin... it is just that there are those sins that are easier to resist because of our faith.... but all of those things you list are some of the easier ones actuly for most... except the money and possessions... because we live in a world that is money based for even the basic necessities... money is not evil...but its mis use can be. so that area takes some of us a lot longer to get controle of that many other"sinfull" areas...

It is not old fashioned or unrealistic at all to try to live by God's standards today... there are more than you might think doing it every day...at least trying to come as close as they can... you meet them all the time... it is just that they do not make a big production of it.... it is the one who is just "acting" that will be touting all the "sacrifices" they do

It's very possible! But you have to be willing to be on the outside of the mainstream. There are people that will not agree with you. But the problem becomes when a person who has those beliefs looks down at a person who doesn't agree.

As a Christian, I have to live the way Christ shows me, but I also have to live and accept that not everyone will agree with my choices. As much as I want people to love God, I have to accept that they won't agree and they have the right to their choices.

Walk in love to the people who live differently than you do, and you won't have to wish you did things differently.

Not sure. Even most Christians do not "act" Christian while out in society. I don't know how many times I've seen teenage woman wearing very trashy attire while sporting a cross necklass or tatoo. Many people claim to be Christian but very few actually try to live up to its teachings. For example, Christ taught that one should give up worldly possessions. He taught that we should turn the other check rather than seek vengence. He taught that we should try to be pure in word and deed. Yet I see very few so called Christians attempting to give away their money or protesting the death penalty. Nowadays it is more fashionable to be called Christian than to actually live the faith.

Absolutely! Society doesn't control my life, or beliefs. Also, there is nothing wrong with working to support your family. That is what the man is supposed to do. As a married women with children I don't believe it's OK to chase a career. Married women with children took on a huge responsibility when deciding to get married, and have children. If they were not willing to give up their careers for a family, they shouldn't have one. I don't think it's OK for "the system" to raise your kids, and teach them their morals (what morals?). That is the mother's place. Why do people think the world is the way it is? People aren't raising their children, they are depending on somebody else to, just for material things, and false hopes of power and control. I think the man needs to be the one supporting the family, even if he needs to work two full time jobs. That is what God intended. As for single or divorced mothers, they have to do what they have to, this is not directed in any way at them. I know as a wife my husband and I sacrifice having a bigger house or having another expensive car, by not having me work. Is all that material nonsense worth my children's security, morals and values, is it worth me missing out on their childhood that flies by in the wink of an eye? NOTHING is worth sacrificing my children, and knowing that they will most likely have a wonderful life, because I made a sacrifice for them!

I don't feel the life of Christians is an "act", but rather a way of life. It is something you have to work on. The more you do it, the easier it is. It is difficult, but this is why God gave us the opportunity to be forgiven of our sins. The more you read the Bible and pray, the more you recognize the evils of the world and understand why God doesn't want us partaking in them. It seemed sometimes frustrating and restrictive to me at first, but the more I tried, the better things were. My life has been more rewarding than ever and I am happier deep down! Try it for awhile, but don't overload yourself. Work on one thing at a time! When you feel yourself struggling, ask God to help you in your walk and your attempts to be obedient to Him. It is also helpful to talk to others about your quests. That way they can help you be accountable!

Hmmm.... I'm not sure where you get the part of not working for money or possessions... you need to work to provide for yourself... self sufficient.. and to provide for others that cannot provide for themselves...unless you are a Prophet called by God.. then He will guide you in all that you do... and he will provide for your needs.

You can obstain from sex until you are married and from watching improper television or movies... and you can serve others... many people do these things... some of them don't even own a television.

Yes it's possible. But having a sin nature, no one can do these things perfectly, all the time. That is why we need a savior, and fortunately, have one in Jesus Christ.

I don't think it's unrealistic to follow what God asks of me. I do think I will fail at it, though....as Paul said "the good I would do, I do not...the evil I would not do, I do". I know exactly what he means.

Define Christian. Jim Jones and a host of other false prophets followed those acetic dogmas beautifully.

No. The book, friend, the book. It's about that right now. And given the place in history we're in right now I'd say you need a crash course in those verses that deal with .... the end of all things. I shouldn't even be telling you that. Hope this helps.

I think that anything is possible. I think what your asking is it reasonably acheivable in todays society to live a true life in your faith. And the answer is YES. I am not religious, although I grew up Methodist. But yes you can life your life in anyway you feel is right for you. It will take sacrifice....lots of patience, and plenty of prayer, but you can do it.
