Go to the Christian section of the book store. Some of my favorite authors are James Dobson and Charles Stanley. There are many others. Make sure you have a translated version of the Bible, like NASB or NIV. Get a study Bible or companion like Zondervan. Go slow and don't try to read the whole thing quickly. It is a very hard book to read and I have been discouraged before too, still do. Join a church or a study group to enhance your studying. Most importantly, pray to God about it. He knows your heart and your attempts to know Him. Lay it at His feet and He will take care of you. I'm a fairly new Christian myself, only about 2 years. I'll help or study with you if you want to, just email me. Good luck and God Bless.

Hi Melissa,
I can't properly call myself a Christian, but I've studied the bible a good many years.
I don't know about websites, but my favorite Bible is the "NIV Study Bible" (published by Zondervan). I don't know what you're into, but the NIV Study Bible is packed with historical and literary notes, maps, references, charts, etc. I read it for hours on end, sometimes mostly the study notes only, because it's fascinating.
I'm a geek though, a PhD student in History and Literature, so you may not be into it. But I've found it VERY helpful in understanding the bible, because it provides tons of background which helps me understand things I NEVER would have gotten on my own, unless I locked myself in a library somewhere for a year. And who's got THAT kind of time?
Good luck! - Jack

Don't worry about reading from cover to cover! Just read a single book. If you are Christian, start with the Gospel of John. Reading John, a couple of chapters a day, will take a week or two.
Psalms can be read one by one, anytime. After John, maybe read Genesis and Exodus, or perhaps Phillipians (which is a wonderful, short, joyful writing).
I skip any family tree kind of stuff - doesn't matter to me right now. Maybe on my second reading.
But, as you read, write down notes. Feelings, questions, anything. Then when you see your pastor or group leader, you can ask those questions.

Pray to God for help! Just keep at it and God will help you! You could also try and get an easier translation of the Bible, or a study Bible ( I have multiple translations of the bible, and I flip back and forth to see the differences, always keep a King James Version even though its tough to understand its good to have because other translations can different sometimes)..
Keep up the Good Work!
Here's a list for you! Many of these links have helped me.

Well, I don't know about a website to help you with your Bible study but I can suggest a Bible that will help you with your study, and it is free.
www.biblesforamerica.org
It is the Recovery Version and it has excellent commentary by Witness Lee. It is also cross referenced exceptionally well. It is only the New Testament though.
Check it out, I use it daily for my study.

Look at the Free Stuff page on my website @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/
There are many good Christian sites there. You can also download the e-Sword software for Free that comes with the KJV with Strong's numbers so that when you run your mouse pointer over the number you can see the original words and their meanings. Download some of the commentaries to see what people who have searched the Scriptures have to say about different passages too.

Try crosswalk.com. Also there is a really great bible called The Quest Study Bible. It's in NIV...which is a more modern translation of scripture. Also, in the margins are questions and answers about the text you are reading. I have used this as my study bible for years...and I really like it.

I heard it recommended to read the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) three times each, and then move on to other chapters. There are some "read the Bible in a year" lists of chapters on a daily basis; you might try that. Don't try to read too much at once.

An excellent web site is oneplace.com. It contains may different speakers that you can listen to. You can then choose to go to their individual web sights for more info (if you like what you hear) or check out some of the written words by some of these great speakers. Have a great time on the site.
