Having a pet that your close to makes you feel wanted and needed. You feel secure because you know that someone loves you unconditionally. They're part of your family. Getting another pet right away isn't the answer. Because you can't replace the relationship and feelings that you had for your lost one. many people make that mistake and end up getting rid of the pet.
Give it some time and let the healing process happen. As time goes by it will get easier for you. When your ready to get another pet you'll know when the time is right.

You might check with a local Petsmart or Petco about a grief support group.

You are grieving, which is perfectly natural. I put my dog down almost 3 years ago, and still experience some mild depression around the anniversary of her death. You just need to go through the grieving process. To help with your sleep issue, you might try a non habit forming sleep aid. I know you are going through a very difficult time in your life. Try to keep your head up. It takes time, but you'll pull through. A support group or board can help you express your grief and feelings of loss.

Best of luck to you.

PS: this is NOT the time to get a new pet. Replacement pets are a very bad idea. You'll try to put your lost pet's personality & qualities on a new pet, which will only be cause for disappointment. You'll be ready for a new one in time. Wait until that time comes. Pets are just like family. If a family member passes, you can't just go buy a new relative, can you?

Because honey you have some unresolved issues with yourself and your family. What you need to do is sit down with a Guidance Cousilor from school or a trust adult and talk to them about the loss of your pet as well as perhaps other feelings you may have resulting with your parents. Also if you dont feel comfortable talking to your parents ask someone else to sit with you and talk it out. Perhaps that will help
.P.s Sorry about your pet that can be hard

Look at it this way your pet is in a happy place and probably lived a happy life. I understand that you felt secure with your pet but everything that lives ends up dying at some point. Now he is happy, celebrate his life instead of mourn his death, and when you are ready go get a new pet that makes you happy. Good Luck!

I'm sorry!! My dog died on the 7th and I swear I see him out of the corner of my eye or hear him wandering around. It's really hard. Some people don't understand that it's not just a pet. You should probably get a new one. I think if I do that, I'm giving him the same name just to help myself out. Good luck

I'm so sorry about your pet! That can be so very hard! Some people think that replacing a pet with another can really get you through the rough time that you are in right now.

that is a tough spot to be in.. i can totally understand you. try to remember the way your pet was before he/she died. was he/she in pain? if so think about how much relief they are in now that its feel from all the pain. if that wasn't the cause then think about all the special treatment its getting in pet heaven.. he/ she is looking over you still.. just from above!
time is the only thing that's going to heal this and unfortunately its never sure on when its going to get easier. you have to just believe that they are in a better place now. i promise over time it will get easier.
i wish the best for you and I'll pray that your heart excepts it soon so your not in pain.

I'm so sorry about your pet. Maybe try to remember all the good times you spent with your pet and how that made you both feel. Laughter does help.

nothing will ever replace the pet that you had... he/she was a part of your life, your companion and a friend.. it definitely hurts when you lose someonen so close.. the best thing to do is to get another pet and by showing this new pet love and affection you'll gradually start to feel better.

Have you tried a stuffed animal and/or warm milk before bed? Warm milk or tea has a relaxing effect. The stuffed animal (or even a pillow) may help with your security issue.
