Well, can you get an alarm system in your home, or what about getting a dog? The dog can alert you of trouble, you can go to your local humane society and adopt a nice older dog. That might help you with your insecurities of being home alone in a new neighborhood. Hope this helps a little. If you can't do either, then try playing music you and your husband like when you go to bed, put pillows on his side of the bed, to make it feel like he's there when you are asleep. Good luck, I wish you the best with this.

There are a lot of things that you can do. If you got the money get an alarm system put in. I always would keep my dog and phone next to me. Have a friend stay with you for the first few nights. If you don't have a tv in your bedroom put one in there so you can leave it on at night so the only sounds you hear are from the tv. Shut and lock the doors to your house and close the blinds. If you don't have blinds push pins and sheets work well. I always made myself a snack and a cocktail to take to bed. The snack tasted good and the cocktail would knock me out enough to get a good nights sleep. No worries I am sure it is all in your head. Get your cocktail, phone and pet snuggle up in bed and watch a little Jay Leno and Connan OBrian. You'll be out and used to being alone before you know it:-)

My husband was in the military and I went through this as well. Is it possible you can have a friend stay over once in a while? Perhaps get a dog or cat to keep you company. I always would leave the tv or fall asleep with it on. If you check all the doors and windows when you go to bed to make sure everything is securely locked before you go to bed then you should have nothing to worry about. Good Luck to you.

Stop thinking of negative things. This is the only way you won't scare yourself too much. If there are creepy people around you, ask a friend you trust to stay with you once in a while. Or you can always call your parents or other family members when you feel really scared. During daytime, you can always go out and check out the "sale" on every mall near your place.
One more thing, how about getting a dog? We have dogs in the house, and they are the ones who look after us while we're asleep. They are better than motion sensors, and are very protective. They are good company too, they can play with you and can become your best friend for a very long time.

I understand - I lived alone for a while, and every little noise spooks me. Make sure your doors and windows are securely locked. Have a routine to know that they're locked before you go to bed. I felt better sleeping with my bedroom door locked - I had to install a locking doorknob myself, but it wasn't very expensive. When extremely spooked, I would sleep with a small light on. I had a good sized Maglight flashlight and my phone by my bed.

Have you met your neighbors at all? If you meet any of them, that would probably ease your worries a little to know there is support in your neighborhood.

I had a security system installed in my home. It only costs a small fee each month. You will feel more secure all the time. I live in a bad neighborhood also and that's the only way that I can feel safe. Check with CPI Security. They are great. They call you each month or so to make sure that your system is working properly. They are on the intercom in 10 seconds flat when your system goes off. They contact the police immediately. Good luck

Get yourself a large dog. My husband and I have 4 dogs. Sometimes he has to go out of town and when he does I feel completely safe. I can even leave the doors open at night and my husband feels better about having to leave our kids and I.

Turn on a lot of lights, and leave some on when you sleep, lock every door and window, pop in a movie into the dvd and play on loud volume, also have a bat or a stick with you lol

okay, first off, start trusting in your abilities! geez, woman! You gotta have more faith in yourself! Also, make a list of safety things that you need to do (locking doors, keeping windows slightly open instead of wide open, etc.), and just check them off as you do them. Another thing you might want to do is take a martial arts class. Even though in a real situation, your brains will be worth far much more than your brawn, it always helps to know a bit of self-defense. Oh, and did I say you need to have more faith in yourself?
