Krakatoa is a composite volcano also known as a stratovolcano. It was 2.5 miles long and 5.6 miles wide.
It erupted on 26th August 1883.
The explosion was so loud people in Japan could hear it.
2/3 of Krakatoa was blown apart.
It caused lightning and tsunamis about 10-stories high!
Dust, ash, and gases made the air hard to breathe. Dust traveled in the air around earth for two years creating beautiful sunsets.

Krakatoa (Indonesian name: Krakatau, Portuguese name: Krakatao) is a volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. The name is used for the island group, the main island (also called Rakata), and the volcano as a whole. It has erupted repeatedly, massively and with disastrous consequences throughout recorded history. The best known of these events occurred in late August 1883.

The eruption ejected more than six cubic miles (25 cubic kilometres) of rock, ash, and pumice, and generated the loudest sound ever historically reported
