China is an environmental disaster, especially when they dam the Yangtze River. It's the third largest river in the world, so altering its flow is going to dramatically impact the environment.

The project will cause devastating environmental damage,
increasing the risk of earthquakes and landslides. It will also
threaten the riverþs wildlife. In addition to massive fish
species, it will also affect endangered species, including the
Yangtze dolphin, the Chinese Sturgeon, the Chinese Tiger, the
Chinese Alligator, the Siberian Crane, and the Giant Panda.
Moreover, silt trapped behind the dam will not only deprive
downstream regions, but also will impede power generation from the back-up. Construction of the dam would require extensive logging in the area. Finally, the dam and the reservoir will destroy some of Chinaþs finest scenery and an important source of tourism revenue.

Being the second worst pollutor does not make a nation a 'dream land'.

Americans pollute more PER CAPITA than any other in the world.. (and the reason why they refuse to ratify international treaties that other developed and civilized nations have ratified (mostly europe) is because being irresponsible on long term, is more economically beneficial on short term.

Besides, half the waste produced in america or by american companies, ends up in china or india or other countries where people die from that pollution.

I don't know, but it is very polluted. So is Russia and many of the former Soviet republics. Compared to those places the US is squeaky clean. Part of the reason it is so clean is all the people who think the US is dirtier than it really is applying political pressure for stricter pollution controls. So if I have to suffer from eco-fanatics who chain themselves to trees and stuff, I guess that is better than living in the polluted mess of Russia or China.

One crucial factor is that a lot of Chinese pollution is a local factor affecting the Chinese. When it comes to pollution exported worldwide in the form of release of greenhouse gases the US is by far the world's biggest delinquent.

If China (does not matter who) is the worst polluters, are they also used by American companies to manufacture products?
If they are forced (or anybody) to clean up, then it would cost more for them to product, thereby the America companies will make LESS profit. That's the way the merry go around and around.

it is because the US is an easy target. We get blamed for everything in the world and are bitched at if we actually try to change things. It will not change.
