This is the second part of Step #12. There are a lot of us out there in recovery that do that. Be sure you have at least a year clean and are a regular at meetings. Be sure you have heard a lot of other speakers and done your fair share of presentations at the meetings before you try public speaking in an effort to reach others. Also do not present yourself as a representative of N.A., A.A. or any other recovery group unless you have been sanctioned to do so. I have seen others try to do as you want to do and blew it because they were still wet behind the ears as far as recovery time goes. Step #12: Having had a spiritual awakening etc. It took me a long time and a lot of prayer for my spiritual awakening but when it came I definitely knew what had hit me. Have a nice day: Forever in recovery: Norm, (clean since 10/06/89)

Hey, you could try checking out local youth groups, schools etc.. however coming from experience here, I had to do a youth workers course and all that jazz just so I was able to attempt to help youths. Even though we know first hand what this is like, people do take it into consideration, but not as much as they should! So my advice is check out your youth groups and speak to someone there and find out what you need to do same with schools, and just keep persisting!
Hope it goes well for you!

You could start with 12 step programs. You might also try contacting the principles of local schools, or the youth minister at church.

Why not call Al-A-TEEN and become a sponsor?
from their website it states verbatim:
"Alateen Sponsorship
Every Alateen group needs an active, adult member of Al-Anon to serve as Sponsor. The Sponsor is an active part of the group, guiding and sharing knowledge of our Twelve Steps and Alateen Traditions."

Join a Toastmaster group in your area and get exposure that way. I believe that it is the best way to get into public speaking.

Go to the junior highs, and high school principals and tell them what you would like to do. Maybe they will allow you to speak to an assembly.
