Why do rich and powerful people get lighter sentences when they commit crimes, but poor people get far harsher punishment when they commit the same crimes?

Because rich people can afford fancy lawyers... and poor people get court appointed lawyers, that suck.

They pay a lot more for good lawyers and stuff and poor people don't have a lot of money so they probably don't even have proffesionals. That's why poor people are very nice and try not to be bad or get in fights

No. One set of rules for everyone.

Rich people get lighter sentences GENERALLY because of their contributions to society which are seen as BETTER and their GOOD LAWYERS.

yes, Mr. Nice Guy, there are different rules for the rich and the poor. why? i don't know, but i'd vote for u to be president and change that. can't go wrong with someone by the name of Mr. Nice Guy, right? i know you'd do ahelluva lot better than our current administration

There is one difference. Rich people have money. With this they can find great lawyers or buy themselves out of things.

OJ Simson sure got off the "hook" and ONLY because he had
LOTS of MONEY!! Not everyone is created equally when it comes to law! Never has been and never will be..
