A creditor must have your social security number. They don't do anything with it except keep an eye on your credit...or they could file a lien against you if you aren't paying your debts.

If you're a wanted criminal, the information will bring the cops to your door. So if you want to remain free, and you're on America's Most Wanted, don't apply for credit. Cuz, if you do, you'll also end up on a COPS episode of "The dumbest criminals."

If you're not a criminal, but the creditor is, then he'll use your SSN and other information you may provide to steal your identity.

Make sure you know what you're doing. Cuz, it can be costly.

They won't give you credit without a credit report. You gave them Your SSN on the form to authorize a credit check. The shouldn't use it for anything else.
