18 months is not considered a puppy but if you have your dog in a kennel at night he wouldn't need water because he should be sleeping. Does your dog have free range around the home? As long as he was hydrated before he went to bed and fresh water is available when you let him/her out in the morning. And what does the A/C have to do with anything?

If you are crating your dog at night (bedtime until you get up), then he doesn't need water during that time. He needs to have access to fresh water all other times of the day, though.

The other issue is why you are crating him or separating him at night, if you are. If he's not potty trained, it's time to get on that ASAP or find a belly band for him. If he tries to sleep in your bed and you can't handle that, then train him to sleep on the floor or in another room. Crating isn't an excuse for owners to be lazy - it's to provide the dog, and your house, with protection when he is awake and you can't watch him.

No. Can't YOU make it through the night without water. They are sleeping. And if they are crated they are likely to just spill it and then have wet blankets.

Jeez posters, is everybody here totally clueless about basic dog care.

you should bring in your dogs water bowl from outside into the house, just incase it does. let your dog use the bathroom before u let it in, so it wont hav an urge in the middle of the nite if it drinks too much water.

Yes. You should always have water down for your dog, no matter what the circumstance is. It's not a matter of being cool, it's a matter of being thirsty.

Yes, don't you get thirsty in an air conditioned house? One has nothing to do with the other.
