This has to do with the science of "scaling". It the same reason why a matchbox car doesn't get destroyed when it flips upside down on its roof but a real car does. It is the same reason why elephants have such big ears (because of their large volume compared to a small surface area, they need large ears for cooling reasons, it is the only reason why they have them), It is the reason why if you put a BB into a large boiling pot of water, it will heat up to the same temperature as the large boiling pot of water much faster than if you drop a shot put into the same pot.
It is all about the science of comparing the volume of an object to its surface area. That is what scaling is about. When something has a large volume compared to a small surface area when compared to something similar, it is stronger, more resilient, better resists temperature changes, etc.
You could very easily make an airplane that is just as strong as a blackbox. The only problem is that it would weigh so much that you couldn't possibily get it airborne. IM me and I will further elaborate.

For the same reason that you don't walk around with 2000 lbs of armor on all day.
And, by the way, it is not indestructable.
