It can happen - some tests claim that they can give you an accurate test result as early as 4-5 days before your missed period, like First Response or e.p.t. You have to remember though that it is a common occurrence that women get false negatives - meaning, the test showed negative but they're really pregnant. That's because sometimes if you test early, even if you are pregnant, if the pregnancy hormone level is not high enough to be detected on a urine stick, then it will show negative. That's why a lot of people say it is better to test as soon as the first day of your missed perid - even better if you wait until a week of missing your period before testing. That way you get sure and accurate results, and won't have to worry if the test you had taken before your missed period was valid or not.
Also, if you test early and it shows positive on the stick, then it means that you are indeed pregnant, because false positives rarely happen and only on the event that (1) you're just recovering from a miscarriage, (2) if you just gave birth to a baby, (3) if you are taking other hormonal medications. So assuming that none of those conditions apply to you, and you get a positive early on, then it means that it's time to give your doctor a call for that first prenatal appointment.
So goodluck!

five days before your missed period is good as long as you get the one label early hpt. or you can go to a ob/gyn and they can do a blood test.
