Most require a gpa of at least 3.0 to apply, but a 3.5 and higher will make you more likely to get in.

The hard reality is that there are many more applicants than class openings so GPA figures heavy in the initial selection. Having a good GPA may get you in line for an interview, if coupled with an acceptable MCAT score(school specific). Activities also help to demonstrate skills not easily measured by the academic grading system. The interview is very important in getting offerred admission. And the irony is that once you are accepted, much of what I just said means nothing, because it will be a difficult, long committment with success being determined by alot of factors, including a person's desire to listen objectively, problem solve, and try to empathise with sick people, which at the end of the day is easier said than done.

3.5 and up (for a good one).

There's a lot more that come in affect when being chosen for medical school, that's why the gpa cutoff is where it is. They look at all the courses you take. They look at what clubs or sports that you are involved in. The look at what volunteering you do, or anything you do outside of school. They look at any research projects that you may be involved in. Lastly, they look at the MCAT score.

(to answer your question, I meant in college. You still have plenty of time still being in high school. good luck!)

Mine was a 3.47 from a relatively unknown school. I am currently in my 4th year of med school. GPA is not the only thing they look at. There was a 4.0 in my class that did not get in for 2 years.

Most of the time 3.5 or higher. But med schools look at more than just GPA

a gpa of 1.5 means you can be a plastic surgeon. It is not regulated by any medical body. Go to newport beach in Cali. They are on every street corner.
