Well, there are many different causes of hearing loss - therefore, there will be many different treatments. You can have hearing loss simply caused by excessive ear wax in the ear canals and that is easily remedied by removing the ear wax. In these cases, it is best to have your doctor remove the excessive wax in the office for the safest remedy. You can have hearing loss that involves your middle ear: Fluid in the middle ear, hardening of the bones of the middle ear, hole in the ear drum, etc. Most of these problems can be "remedied" through medical treatment and/or surgery.

Hearing loss due to inner ear causes are quite varied. You can have hearing loss due to just getting older - called presbycusis. There is no medical treatment for that. Only rehabilitation through hearing aids and learning better listening skills. There are many other causes of inner ear hearing loss other than aging. Some can be quite serious, such as a tumor on the hearing nerve that may require surgical removal. Other problems, such as Meniere's disease or sudden hearing loss have different treatments.

Your question although is quite simply stated requires books and books of answers - My Masters degree training touched on these answers at best, Medical school and post medical school fellowships for doctors go more indepth of course.

I hope this gives you an outline of information to answer your question. If you suspect you have a hearing loss start with your family doctor, who may refer you to audiology for a complete audiological evaluation and I am sure you will have more complete answers based on what your problem may be. Good luck.

Medical treatments for Hearing loss

Approaches
In addition to hearing aids there exist cochlear implants of increasing complexity and effectiveness. These are useful in treating the mild to profound hearing impairment when the onset follows the acquisitions of language and in some cases in children whose hearing loss came before language was acquired. Recent research shows variations in effacacy but some promising studies[7] show that if implanted at a very young age, some profoundly impaired children can acquire effective hearing and speech.

Views of treatments
There is controversy in the culturally deaf community as to whether cochlear implants address wellness concerns, the overall health and psycho-emotional well-being of prelingually deaf children at all.

Gene Therapy
In 2005, there was success of the regrowth of cochlea cells in test subjects by a research team led by Dr. Yehoash Raphael from the University of Michigan

A team led by Dr. Stefan Heller from Stanford University are pioneering stem cell research in the prospect of regrowth in cochlea cells
