RE:
How can someone gain 5 pounds in one day?
This is really strange. I ate a moderate amount yesterday but I drank a lot of diet pop. When I woke up, I weighed five pounds more than the previous morning. Is there something wrong with me?

Water retention, and possibly your scale. Try weighing yourself 3 times and take the average. Also, move your scale just so it resets itself, and make sure it is on a hard, level surface. The diet pop will not help your body as a water replacement. Drink lots of water for a few days and you should be back to normal.

First check you scale against a known standard (put a 10lb bag of flour on it and make sure it really weighs ten pounds). If the scale is OK, re-weigh yourself tomorrow. If your weight does not even out, go see a Dr.
Your weight can fluctuate several pounds from day to day due to water, when you last used the bathroom, what you had for breakfast, if you have been ill or what clothes you were wearing. If you are worried, go to your doctor.

That happens to me ALOT..the weight gain isnt permanent..it's just the weight of the things you ate before..I'ts just taking long to fully digest.
I say you will get back to your normal weight in a few days..maybe 2

Maybe you are retaining water. You couldn't have gained 5 lbs of fat in one day, but it is possible to retain 5 lbs water weight

Did you use the scale on a hard surface? If not, try that.
