It depends on what you are doing instead of working. If you are seeking treatment to get your panic disorder under control, then that's a reasonable thing to do.

If you are not seeking treatment and just sitting around at home wasting time watching television, that is a very bad idea. You probably won't be able to do it forever, and the longer it goes on, the worse the panic will get when you think about going back to work. Even if you could do it forever, you wouldn't want to, because someday you will feel like your life has gone by and you have missed it.

Seek help. You can get your problem under control and become a stronger and better person. Believe in yourself.

Absolutely not. A panic disorder can be debilitating. I suffer from it and until I got on medication I wasn't able to leave my house for two weeks. It can take a while to find the right medication as well. Have patience with whoever is experiencing this. If they do not get help for their problem then that is one thing, but if they are getting medical help...then have patience. It can take awhile to get the problem fixed. It is a fixable problem! It truly is an illness caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain (much like depression). Give the person support and let them know that they can take the time to deal with it. If they know they don't have to hurry back to work immediately...it takes one less stress off of their plate. This illness is a common one, especially in woman. Be supportive and make sure the person gets some medical help.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

It is in the best interest of the proletariat working class individual to continue working for his bourgieosie masters to earn a living for the continuation of his life and family.

That is, of course, if you are a poser anarchist, revolutionary(-less) communist, or socialist fringee and jujst want to bash commonplace agendas.

Of course, it is still not an excuse. Most employers will accomodate for Panic Disorderly individuals under the Disabilites Act in the USA, or face legal litigation at the hands of the state, federal, or local governments upon recieving complaints from the employees.

If you are Panic Disordered, file a claim with the Americans with Disabilities Act branch office in your town and seek immediate medical attention. This will prevent further outbreaks and will allow for accomodations to be placed for you and prevent other employees, managers, foremen(women), supervisors, and executives from harrassing you, discriminating against you, or what-have-you.

If you are asking this for a friend, I hope you find this info helpful.

Temporarily, yes. BUT, the right combination of behavioral therapy and possibly some medication (from a Psychiatrist) will minimize the disorder so that a person can work.

Also, seeing an occupational therapist can help you determine which jobs would elevate the disorder and which would help you keep it manageable.

Good luck & GOD bless.

It might limit the jobs they could perform, but it shouldn't keep them from working altogether. There are jobs out there that don't require being around a lot of other people.
