The throne of God is depicted many ways and many colors
You can find places in the Bible with all of the following:
There is a throne with fire coming out of it for judgement
There is a thorne with water coming out for life for the redeemed
There is the great white throne judgement in Revelation
There is a mobile saphire (blue?) throne in the sky in Ezekiel (blue sky) coming to where the Jews in captivity were in Babylon
There is a high and holy throne in Ezekiel
The angels of children are always before the throne
Lightning come from tte throne whowing powerand yet the sea in front is clear and without ripple or disturbance showing gentle control
Jesus is seated in session at the right hand of the throne
The emerald rainbow might be because God is sovereign over life, plants being green... its just a guess though
The redeemed in some sense are seated with Christ in Ephesians and in some sence Jesus in Revelations offers to the one who overcome to be seated with Him as He was seated on his fathers throne
It's a rich subject
some say the creatures with the 4 wheels in Ekiekiel below the throne are like the 4 loops that were used to life the ark, the ark of the covenant symbolizing the throne
and many images of God riding on the cherub ... hows that for an image?

The beauties of heaven can never fully be understood in human terms so John did his best to describe what he saw. When you say an emerald rainbow around the throne of God you also have to look at the other descriptions John offers. I think it shows both God's power and beauty. God is sheer beauty.

The writer was trying to get the idea across of beauty and value. Heavenly Reality is different than what we experience here. The spectrum is different, and there could well be multiple spectra. That's how gold can be transparent. But we really won't know for sure till we get there.

This site that I posted says it signifies faithfullness and unchanging love. I'd say that fits God perfect. I am glad I searched and found that out.
