If the kitten is from your own mother cat, then the mother cat will teach the kittens.

Place the mother cat in a cage. Let her and the newborn kittens stay inside for at least 2 mths so as make sure the kittens get all their suckling. At abt 4~6 weeks, get a small litter tray and place it in the cage. They will then learn how to use the tray. The adventurous kitties will even climb into their mother's tray to use it.

You don't have to train a kitten to use a litter box. They instinctively know to use it. You have to show them where it is. You may have to take them back to it a few times at first just to be sure they know where it is but other than that they go on their own. We have always put our kittens inside the litter box, let them sniff around and scratch in it. They will go back and use it on their own. Don't move the litter box once they have gotten use to the first spot because that is the spot they will go back to. Good luck with the new kitten. Your litter box should always be open for the kitten to get inside.

My two kittens are now at 8 weeks when I first brought them home I first sat them in there box and let them explore from there. They naturally dig a little a spot when the need to go. I would take the cover off for now, being a kitty they don't really need it just yet. Be sure that there food is no where within striking distance of there box. That really makes them made. Kittens are great! The more attention you give them the sweeter they will be. Enjoy!

Take the top of of the box until the cat gets the hang of it. You randomly put the cat on the box, and if it does its thing somewhere where it shouldnt, pick it up and put it in the box. Also, get some "nature's Maricle" from wal mart, and spray it on "stains." Cats tend to go to the same place over and over. But A lot of the time, the mother cat will train the kittens to do there thing in the box

Keep on telling the kitten about the litter box, the kitten will soon understand and will use the litter box.

Every time he wakes up from a nap, put him in the litter box. Every time he has an accident on the floor, put him in the litter box. They catch on pretty quickly.
