There is an aura of energy surrounding your body. It's there so your body can sense itself in space. You are detecting that aura (which is a symbol we use for an undefined physiological process) when you do this experiment.
I detected the same phenomena when I learned to put contact lenses in. My finger failed to move closer with any amount of effort due to the protective effects of the aura.
That's my theory, anyway.

It's psychological. It's like the Pavlov experiment where Pavlov rang a bell before the dog's suppertime, so the dog drooled when the bell was rung, even when there was no supper.
It's like when I'd wiggle my fingers in a menacing way towards my ticklish siblings.

I would like to say because of the heat(energy) of your finger is static electricity when approaching your nose heat(energy) is emanating from it to connect, almost preparing for skin to touch skin.
It is an electrical discharge of sorts
