Xanax works better for me. It calms you down real good. Buspar did not help me much. If Xanax doesn't work for you, you may want to get back in touch with your dr. It should help you as soon as you take it. That's what I like about it. You can feel the results almost immediately. You have control of the anxiety when you can have them to take as you need them.

I cannot comment on Buspar, as i am unfamiliar with this drug.

First, I will state my credentials, for purposes of answering this question. I have a BA in Psychology. While attending university i did research for a professor who was doing a study on pharmacology. I currently work at a long-term residential treatment facility for troubled teens.
I also suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder, which is accompanied by panic (anxiety) attacks.

Xanax is not a solution to anxiety. Xanax is effective in calming a person while that person is suffering an anxiety/panic attack. Xanax is an immeadiate soother. It is a tranquilizing medication that sedates the user. Thus, while one is freaking out during an attack, it helps calms this person down, but Xanax does nothing to aid in preventing future attacks.

Personally, I take Paxil CR for my Social Anxiety, and it works wonders. Over the course of the past 2 years in which i have been taking this medication i have only had two severe panic attacks; where as, before taking this drug i suffered about 2 severe attacks a month.
However, the best form of treatment i have found for my anxiety is avoidance. If i do not put myself into situations that normally would cause an attack, i am obviously less likely to have an attack.

I would recommend you look deeper into your anxiety problems, and try to figure out the core cause of your anxiety. Once you process through this i think you will find that much of your anxiety could be lessened by avoiding the stimuli that causes anxiety altogether.

I am not sure about either of those medications for anxiety but I have used Ativan, lorazepam which is genric for Ativan, Oxazepam, and valium. These have all worked very well for myself and within a decent time frame. Aslo ZOLOFT might be a choice for a daily medication because the ones I listed above are to be taken at the onset of your symptoms and are habit forming if taken for long periods of time on a regular basis.

Xanax. Also Valium and colonzopam work well, but doctors are hesitating more now when prescribing these drugs because they're addictive. I take Zoloft, which helps my depression and a little with anxiety. But I wouldn't recommend it if your only problem is anxiety.

The best medicine for anxiety is Lexapro. Xanax is very addicting and so is Buspar. I find that Lexapro levels out my seretonin making it easier for me to stay level.

It depends on the person. Every medication affects everyone differently. Anxiety medications take a while to start working, so have patience. If they are not working for you, talk to your doctor...you may need to try a different medication or a different dosage. Have patience. It will go away!

I dont know much about anxiety medications but are you taking but I do know that it wont work if you are not having psycho therapy as well.

Medication alone will not assist a problem, it needs to work hand in hand with treatment to change your patterns and ways of thinking...

Good luck!
