--> Whole grains are cereal grains which contain the bran and germ as well as the endosperm, in contrast to refined grains which contain only the endosperm. ex) oat, barley, millet, wheat, maize, etc.

Experts encourage the consumption of whole grain foods than refined grains because whole grains' bran is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytoestrogens, lignans, antioxidants and all other helpful factors.

They have high correlations in lowering the risk of cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, and other illnesses. It also is beneficial for preventing constipation and diverticulosis.

whole grains are grains that have the whole kernel... whether ground or whole. So, Barley, Wheat, Rice, Corn, Oats -- all of these would basically be as nature made them with only the hull removed. You can grind wheat, oats, etc and still consider it whole grain as long as it is the real deal; nothing added, nothing taken away.
