My dog used to eat things off of the bathroom counter, so my mom covered some bread in hot sacue and left it on the counter. After eating that, the dog didn't touch anything else left up there.

There are two fixes for this
A shock collar works really well but they are expensive.
The cheap fix is mousetraps. The small metal and wood ones at the hardware store. Get a couple and put something on the counter behind the trap that the dog wants. Then set the trap in front of the food and set it.
Leave and the dog will correct itself when it tries for the food.
Do this for a week or so then all you will have to do is leave the trap on the counter not set and the dog will have learned not to mess with the trap as they hurt.
Works almost every time. I had one dog who actually jumped up on the counter and ate things she just went behind the trap and it never moved so it did not work with her but has worked very well for 99% of my clients dogs.

For my dogs, I use a system of cans and string. I tie a can every few inches on a long string and place it on the counter where the dogs can't see it, but if they get up there they will hit the cans and then they know they're in trouble, seems to work well, if that doesn't work I will get a two liter pop bottle and put a couple of pennies in it and shake it at them when they get on the counter.

wipe your counters thoroughly. my dog does this when she smells sumthin good on the table. she also starts licking the table for leftovers. and if the counter is tall, find out how your dog is getting on it. push in any chairs or raised places that lead to the counter so your dog cant get on it.

Train it not to? Tell the dog "NO" when it does it, and when it listens to you and doesn't, give him/her a treat. Continue until the dog recognizes that it is not supposed to be on the counter.

Your local PetCo sells a thing called chew stop. It repells my dog because she does not like the smell. On another note, you should get that on video and send it to AFV or ANIMAL PLANET's Funniest Animals. You might get $100.
